UNIVERSAL DESIGN OF LEARNING

We have watched a video of this and it has been very interesting to us.
The first thing that I have learnt with this is that everybody has a different form of learning and we should meet this diversity (designed).
The point where it is focused is to achieve minimize the barriers and maximize the learning of all students.
I have understood that the principles of this are: Strengths, needs and interest. With these three “bases” the universal learning is achieved.
In the video I have seen that there are three primary brain networks come into play:
-RECOGNITION, MULTIPLE REPRESENTATION: (The “what” of learning)-Present information and content in different ways.

-STRATEGIC, MULTIPLE ACTIONS AND EXPRESSION: (The “how” of learning)-Differentiate the ways students can express what they know.

-AFFECTIVE, MULTIPLE ENGAGEMENT: (The “way” of learning)-Stimulate interest and motivation of learning.

ENGAGEMENT: Let students learn form their mistakes.

I have noted that the design of learning has to have goals, methods, materials and assessments. To take away the barriers there are multiple ways: Representation, Engagement, Action and Expression. To support all students including students with disabilities to successfully engage with the Common Core, educators can apply the UDL framework to Common Core-

INCLUSIVE EDUCATION

We have been learning the inclusive education and this is very interesting for us because we are going to be teachers and with this we can realize a lot of things that we didn’t know before. We have learnt that this is : inclusive education means that all students attend and are welcomed by their neighbourhood schools in age-appropriate, regular classes and are supported to learn, contribute and participate in all aspects of the life of the school.
Inclusive education is about how we develop and design our schools, classrooms, programs and activities so that all students learn and participate together.
Neighbourhood schools are the heart of our communities, and Inclusion believes they are essential for a quality inclusive education system. Therefore we believe it is important to support a public education system.

And the result of the inclusive education is positive, because it has a lot of benefits for the students, for the society, for the entire world I think…
These benefits are diverse because there are many: Develop individual strengths and gifts, with high and appropriate expectations for each child.
Work on individual goals while participating in the life of the classroom with other students their own age.
Involve their parents in their education and in the activities of their local schools.
Foster a school culture of respect and belonging. Inclusive education provides opportunities to learn about and accept individual differences, lessening the impact of harassment and bullying.
Develop friendships with a wide variety of other children, each with their own individual needs and abilities.

Positively affect both their school and community to appreciate diversity and inclusion on a broader level. All children benefit from inclusive education. It allows them to develop in a good way to get high mark, higher self-development…so in conclusion, this is the way, I believe, that all countries should establish in their educational system.

SILVIA’S DIARY .
GROUP B-SILVIA GARCÍA RODRÍGUEZ.

-

This has been the beginning of this subject. We started the class after the main presentation in the university so we began our class doing a presentation; we talked about us, saying our name, why had we chosen that degree… And Mina suggested us to change the positioning of the class, she told us to put it in U form. Because this is different to the common class, and because she liked more this positioning.
She gave us a sheet with some questions to answer them. The questions were about: defining the aim of education, the best teacher, the reasons that we decided to choose the degree…
This questions made me think deeper in my thoughts, because I have always been a primary teacher so It was difficult for me explain in the good way. But with that activity I learnt that for me being teacher is just my one way, because I don’t see me doing other things that are not teaching, being with children, learning… I am very please with this because I have realize more than ever that I love this degree.
-
The following activity that we did a few of questions like: what we try to achieve, what are our goals as a teacher, what are our aims of education…I thought it during a lot of time because this questions made me think deeper and deeper , I have always wanted to be “the best teacher” with who the children learn a lot, like values, knowledge, help them to achieve their plans, have a good time during learning…
-

An other day Mina gave us a couple of texts to read. The texts were about: approaches to the curriculum, Character of the aim of education and the aims of education in an age of stasis and change. They content a lot of information that was unknown for me but this information has been a learning.
The meaning of curriculum was totally unknown for me and I have learn a lot about It and now I can understand it perfectly. The term curriculum refers to the lessons and academic content taught in a school or in a specific course or program”
With these classes I learnt that aims define the point of an activity what it seeks to achieve where it should go.
-
Another activity that we have done it has been THE DEBATE, one of the most important for me, because we had to defend thoughts that weren’t our thoughts or yes. It was about the education in the houses or in the schools, most of the class thought that education in houses is not a good way of education but it was a roll and if it was our roll we had to say positive things about it and defend it against the other with the opposite roll. With this activity I learnt that we shouldn’t live with our own idea and think more in the other point of view and with this you realize that your idea is not the best one and the other is not the worst one. So with this activity I saw that learning at home is not too bad how I thought because it has good things and it is well done but I am not accord with this point of view. So I have learnt with this: we have to think beyond our thoughts.

With this we have already built a mature point of view of everything in life, because with this we are going to value each point although we don't share that way, that opinion.
-
Suddenly, a day an ECONOMIC TEACHER arrived to our class and he started talking to us about how economies see education. At the beginning I thought that it would be more dynamic but not. First he started saying that we have to change our economic model. Firstly, we have to investigate more in education and the object of this is that education will help us to be a better society and get a stronger economy. It was interesting but when he started talking deeper in economy so we didn’t understand anything.Because it was an explaining without caring about our attention...

 POPULAR MYTHS ABOUT TEACHING

This activity has been entertaining because we have read some myths about education, children… that are not too real. One of them is: “kids today are worse than ever before” first we thought that It was true but when Mina said to us her opinion I began thinking about couple of time that teachers had said my class that It is the worst that they have never had… and the true is that the society is the factor that is continuously changing. So children are not just the ones that change and if teacher don’t change they will always say that each year children are worse than the last one. An other myth: “Teachers always know what’s going on in classroom” : okay, this is a difficult one, because we thought that it depends on the teacher, if he is “modern” or not. If he knows all the innovations…Other was: “ The teachers work is to “save” the children”: It could be true because teachers are there to teach to children values, knowledge, behaviour… and If he teach it in the right way it is like “save” because It is for their future and for the construct of their personality.
